Lost Hope
© Sharon Wallace 1999
This is
a scene too often seen these days.
Old homeplaces run down or abandoned due to the hardship
of making a living.
So many farmers have been forced out of growing food sources
in order for our government to subsidize the overseas markets.
Allowing big corporations to control the markets that are
available
to the point of squeezing out the small farmer.
When you do see a small farm still in operation, stop and think!
Are they barely making ends meet?
Are they able to sell their harvest
in order to make it through the winter?
Make sure your children see a small farm
for it may not be many years in the future
before this will be another scene from the past.
